The hope for tomorrow.

As I look again at this picture which I took on Saturday, I can’t help but feel drawn again towards my own childhood memories – and one aspect of my childhood which I clearly remember, as I’m sure all of you do as well, is how everything used to look impressive and enormous. Then you grow up and everything around you seems to start shrinking in size and complexity – buildings become smaller and concepts easier to understand. When I snapped this photo, none of this went through my mind. All I saw was an excited little girl happy with her balloon as she marched towards one of the most beautiful Oxford buildings – the Sheldonian Theatre. Who knows? In a few years’ time she might be matriculating in that very same building. And then she will look upon some other excited little kid as they behold the sight of the exaggeratedly large Sheldonian, possibly for their first time. Such is the march of life. We come, we age, we go. And such is the fleeting beauty of it all.
