The Window
Sometimes, I take a picture just for the sake of the qualities that I like to see so much in a photo, but not necessarily for the subject itself. Such is this photo. Of course, there is a subject – and that is the window. However, it was not this that made me click the shutter, but two other things which I most cherish in a photograph: texture and mottled lighting. I simply love texture, be it on a wall or a piece of cloth. And mottled lighting simply fascinates me. To me, mottled lighting has the perceivable effect of imbuing things with a life of their own. It creates interest and stifles boredom. Its effect is the emergence of features without any fixed pattern. Now give me texture and mottled lighting together and I don’t need anything else. I admit that in my mind, the subject takes on a secondary role, merely as an embellishment. Having said that, I do happen to like this window very much nonetheless. So anyway, those are my happy thoughts about texture, mottled lighting and windows. I hope you enjoy the picture!
