{"id":32,"date":"2014-08-24T14:50:42","date_gmt":"2014-08-24T13:50:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.josephcaruana.co.uk\/diving\/?p=32"},"modified":"2018-05-28T14:17:15","modified_gmt":"2018-05-28T12:17:15","slug":"welcome-to-my-dive-log","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.josephcaruana.co.uk\/diving\/2014\/08\/24\/welcome-to-my-dive-log\/","title":{"rendered":"Welcome to my dive log"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi!\u00a0 Welcome to my divelog!\u00a0 I presume you&#8217;ve come here because you would like to know what this project is about, so let me give you a brief explanation.<\/p>\n<p>Keeping a dive log is something that many divers do.\u00a0 First of all, it serves a very useful purpose, such as keeping a record of the amount of weight used with a given exposure suit &amp; equipment setup, and keeping track of the surface air consumption.\u00a0 It also provides a dossier of one&#8217;s experience level.\u00a0 That&#8217;s particularly useful when you are on a diving holiday, say, and you need to provide some &#8220;evidence&#8221; to the local dive shop that you are sufficiently experienced to join for a certain dive.<\/p>\n<p>For many, however, keeping a dive log is just a nice way of keeping a memory of their diving adventures, long after the cylinder valve has been closed and the post-dive chat with buddies is over.<\/p>\n<p>Nowadays, some people have moved towards logging their dives via software installed on their laptop, or even an app on their phone.\u00a0 Others &#8211; and I count myself amongst this category &#8211; still like keeping a traditional logbook of the paper &amp; ink variety.<\/p>\n<p>Right, so that&#8217;s enough about logbooks.\u00a0 How did this specific project come to mind?<\/p>\n<p>Very often I carry a camera with me on my dives.\u00a0 For this reason, I had long thought of starting a webpage dedicated to the sharing of my images.\u00a0 But then, once upon an afternoon, it struck me.\u00a0 Why not post the pictures from my dives in a dive log fashion?\u00a0 Not that I would ever want to replace my trusty paper logbook, but surely it would be nice to compliment it with an online log which would also enable others to share a little bit in the excitement of exploring the underwater world.<\/p>\n<p>And that&#8217;s the spirit in which this site was created.\u00a0 It won&#8217;t necessarily log each and every dive I make (I have my paper logbook for that!), but dives on which I carry my camera and happen to encounter something which I deem to be worth sharing will find their place here.\u00a0 Also, I don&#8217;t intend to restrict this webpage strictly to my dives.\u00a0 If there&#8217;s a diving topic which I feel like writing about, it will crop up on this space. \u00a0Indeed you can finding a listing of such articles <a href=\"http:\/\/www.josephcaruana.co.uk\/diving\/articles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever brings you here, I hope you enjoy your stay on these pages!<\/p>\n<p>Happy &amp; safe diving,<\/p>\n<p>Joseph<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_20\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20\" style=\"width: 768px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.josephcaruana.co.uk\/diving\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/ed_GOPR0696-e1472045021140.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-20 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.josephcaruana.co.uk\/diving\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/ed_GOPR0696-2000x1332.jpg\" alt=\"The Blue Hole, Dwejra.
