Prof. Joseph Caruana\u00a0<\/strong>\/\/ Group leader<\/strong><\/p>

Joseph read for a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Physics and Mathematics at UM, and a DPhil in astrophysics at Oxford. He was a postdoctoral researcher at the Lebiniz Institut f\u00fcr Astrophysik (AIP) in Potsdam, and joined UM’s department of Physics in 2016. Joseph’s research interests in astrophysics are in galaxy formation and evolution, reionisation, galactic dynamics, and night sky brightness. His other research interest is in the history of astronomy, and the application of physics to hyperbaric medicine and geoscience.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Micole Miceli \/\/ Research Support Officer<\/b><\/p>\n

Micole read for a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Physics and Geosciences at UM, carrying out her final year project in Galactic Dynamics, supervised by Prof. Joseph Caruana and Prof. Victor Debattista.. Following this she pursued a Master’s in astrophysics at the University of Padova. Connor Sant Fournier \/\/ PhD student<\/b><\/p>

Connor carried out his MSc at ISSA on automating measurements of the Night Sky Brightness under the supervision of Prof. Joseph Caruana and Dr. Alessio Magro. Dr Karl Fiteni \/\/ Collaborator<\/b><\/span><\/p>

Karl read for a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Physics and Mathematics at the University of Malta. For his final year project Karl carried out photometric measurements of variable stars supervised by Prof. Joseph Caruana. Dr Ryan Vella \u00a0\/\/\u00a0Collaborator at ETH Zurich<\/b><\/span><\/p>

Ryan Vella read for a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Physics and Mathematics at the University of Malta. His final year project supervised by Prof. Joseph Caruana involved the mapping of the night sky brightness (NSB) over the Maltese Islands.\u00a0 In 2019, Ryan completed his M.Sc. in Geosciences (UM), followed by a fellowship in Earth Observation at the European Space Agency (ESA) as a Maltese National Trainee. He read for a PhD at the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry in Mainz, Germany, and at present is a\u00a0postdoctoral researcher in atmospheric physics at ETH Zurich.\u00a0<\/span>Ryan continues to work with the group on projects relating to dark skies and light pollution.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
