A Door Closes.
“When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.” ~ Alexander Graham Bell
If you’re thinking that those words were the inspiration behind this photo, then I’m afraid I’ll disappoint you when I say that no, they weren’t. Two things made stop and take this picture. Well, actually three. Firstly, the light was right, of course. There was some lovely, late-afternoon directional sunlight illuminating the door which made it look more interesting than it usually does. Secondly, I had actually noticed this door countless times before and always kept it at the back of my mind as something I wanted to photograph. And finally, well – I simply love old-fashioned doors and doorknobs, you see. Well, actually, anything that’s old, I find fascinating. As simple and common a reason as that. It was when I was tinkering in the digital darkroom that Graham Bell’s words came to mind. So may this picture remind you of those words of wisdom – and more importantly, may they stick to the mind of all those who somehow stumble upon this post.
