Comet NEOWISE and the Milky Way
This was the most demanding image of it so far, for two reasons – one physical, the other technical.
Firstly, it was quite a tricky adventure lugging all the gear (camera, lenses, tripod, mount, heavy power supply, etc.) over jagged rock all the way to this site in the dark (and back). Secondly, it is fairly challening to record this part of the Milky Way by Cassiopeia, as it is far fainter than the core region that is visible in the South (which is the subject of standard Milky Way photos). Unfortunately, light pollution encroaches upon this part of sky even at Dwejra, which underlines the importance of curbing its spread, for no site is immune from the spillover of its effects.
The comet is slowly starting to fade, but is still clearly visible to the naked eye. If you haven’t seen it yet, I suggest you try and catch a glimpse very soon.
