The total solar eclipse visible from Mexico and the United States instilled great interest amongst the general public. On the 4th of February, Il-Ħaġar museum in Victoria (Gozo) kindly invited me to deliver a public lecture about astronomy as part of their Saturday morning lecture series. On the 15th of November, the Chamber of Scientists and Aġenzija Żgħażagħ hosted a ĊineXjenza event at Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta. This event focussed on the documentary ‘Chasing Einstein’. Afterwards, we discussed the topic of dark matter (which is the main subject of this documentary).
On the 31st of August, Wirt Għawdex and The Astronomical Society of Malta joined forces to organise an astronomy event at the Citadel, Gozo. The focus was the two giant planets Jupiter and Saturn. Although telescopes were set up to observe these two planets, the weather did not cooperate. However, we still had a lovely time discussing the wonders of the solar system.
This week was a special one indeed. Finally, we were able to see the first images from JWST – the remarkable telescope we have been awaiting for so many years! This evening, the Astronomical Society of Malta organised a public talk about light pollution on the Maltese Islands. It was a well-attended event where I was given the opportunity to present the work in this area of my research group at University, and discuss the effects and implications of the problem of light pollution, specifically as it pertains to scientific observations, ecology, and human health. In January 2022, Esplora (within the Malta Council for Science and Technology) organised ‘STEM Career stories’, where a series of 10 stories were read to school students online.
